AEON B2-Team: Season 7, Session 9 – Making Moves

Dramatis Personae

  • Amar Gupta aka The Iron Sikh  (played by Christian): Brick. Taxi Driver. Ass-Kicker. Sikh. Tagline: “Being a man of faith means to live it.”
  • Amie-Belle T. W. Lee aka Whisper (Played by Curtis): Cold War era super-soldier/spy that got put in the Freezer, because she got poisoned. After getting thawed out and cured she tried to back to work, and was given an “adjustment period”. Uncle Sam called 2 years later, with work… because once you’re in, you’re in for life. Tagline: “In and out without a whisper.”
  • Beauregard K. “Bo” Ratnam aka Wirerat (Played by Brice): Technopath, inventor, and hacker. He specializes in co-opting enemy systems and tech assets. Tagline: “Nice tech – I’ll borrow that.”
  • Rafe Hanlon aka Nyx (played by Chris D.): An umbrakinetic petty thief still on work release several years later, on his way to becoming a true agent and hero. Tagline: “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
  • Vincenzo L. dePrezzo aka Threshold (Played by Rory): Doctor, Mathematician, and Scientist (yes, capitals) and Spatial Manipulator. Threshold can bend space like a pretzel, teleport, obliterate things, and has extraordinary senses. He’d rather be in a research lab than fight. Better known for his work with Doctors Without Borders, the United Nations, and disaster relief than famous battles. Tagline: “I can be there in a snap!”
  • Derrick K. Ratnam aka Legerdemain (NPC Ally): Spin doctor and media liaison for Project VANGUARD. Twin to Bo. Tagline: “Well, actually that’s not how it happened…”
  • Layla A. de Blackburn aka Nox (NPC): CIA-trained child assassin all grown up to be Daddy’s Little Monster. Maybe a little mad. Argues with her shadow often. Tagline: “No, we shouldn’t do that…should we?”
  • Stainless Steel Rat aka “Sir” (NPC Ally): Bo’s best friend and assistant. A sentient drone in the shape of a stylized shiny metal rat mindlinked to Bo. Specialties are rapid repair construction and modifications. Imagine if K-9 and R2D2 made a baby and it looks a bit like a rodent. Tagline: “Repairs and upgrades in progress.”

Previously . . .

Everyone has gathered back into the firehouse after Whisper has finished loitering around the crime scene photographing everyone and Wirerat has a lot of information to sort through alongside MIA who is still very distraught. Threshold finally sits the group down and holds the meeting to discuss what they’ve learned from the prison while his whole body continues to tingle and he notices that some of the long-lasting scars on his body have disappeared, pretending that he’s quite unconcerned about it.

Nyx offers a few suggestions on what they should do, namely that Whisper should check out the rap sheets for Ryan Robertson. Wirerat investigates what information he’s got at hand and work with his brother to find an amenable judge for warrants they may need. Nyx and June will be heading to Riker’s Island to check out a few things about Fracture and June’s father. Threshold can go look at himself under a microscope so that he’s already itching to do.

Wirerat starts sorting through the footage that he’s got, with MIA working with him. Chatting a bit, he learns that MIA has started taking a shine to Nox and plans to turn her into a hero. MIA continues collating the information around the neighborhood to find cameras that failed mysteriously and creates a 3d representation of the neighborhood to find the blind spots and problems. SSR is enjoying their new body, dancing around to music by Incubus when Wirerat suggests he goes with Legerdemain to speak with some judges, at least until SSR starts an inadvertent limbo contest between themself and Wirerat, with Wirerat getting real low as he waits for his information to collate.

MIA informs Wirerat that there’s a persistent hole in the videos and shows an examination that there’s a person sized hole that’s being edited out. As it’s being edited out, they can use the fact that it’s being edited they can determine some basic characteristics to determine height, weights, stature, posture, and starts developing a program to determine when something is editing human sized holes in their footage and then ships the information out to the crews.

Dough and Doughnuts

Whisper
Dough Doughnuts
Wednesday, May 6th, 2020, 1300 hours (EST)
14 West 19th Street at, 5th Ave, New York, 10011

Whisper, meanwhile, has managed to to locate Dion Crawford who has been conducting his business from a donut shop named Dough Donuts on 5th Avenue. He’s practically got his name on an alcove in the back. She dolls herself up and enters, him spotting her immediately as she approaches and goes into major euphemisms concerning large hardware. He says he may be able to do some stuff for her, getting some hardware that was originally meant for a show. More euphemisms and talks around the subject before he hands her a business card with an address, telling her to be there in about an hour before leaving. She uses some tradecraft to lift his prints off the table, but doesn’t actually find any actual prints though she’s sure that he touched items much to her confusion. She looks around before transmitting the address to the rest of the team, giving information to Legerdemain asking if he can get her some backup nearby. Legerdemain makes a call to the local MAPS team for Manhattan, The Valiants, to give them a heads up that things may end up with some violence before he sends a drone to Whisper’s location with a large amount of cash in a briefcase.

Junkyard Dawgs

Whisper

Wednesday, May 6th, 2020, 1400 hours (EST)
3515 Heathcote Ave, Bronx, NY 10475

At the address, it’s a junkyard in the Bronx, he’s not stupid enough to try to do anything actually illegal in the Valiant’s jurisdiction. Dion gives a welcome to her and barking can be heard. Apparently he’s got some hounds that were infected with an Ivory Labs virus causing them to have enhanced intelligence that he keeps in specialized collars to enforce things. Namely that he’s got them in collars with some C4 in them that’ll activate if they fail him.

Getting down to brass tacks, he heads over to a junk car and opens it up to reveal and anti-material rifle like the one Nyx spotted in the ice cream truck, saying that he’s only got the one at the moment as he had someone buy up most of his stock and that’s the last one as he only keeps five on hand. She notices that one of the dogs, Galahad, is trying to tell her something via morse code by pawing in the dirt. He keeps repeating the word danger. Whisper, goes from being sweet to grabbing a piece of metal and bending it into loops while looking at Dion. His eyes go wide before going nonchalant, telling her that if he tries anything then she won’t be getting out of it alive. She tries a different tact by telling Dion that they may have been made and in danger, asking who knows about the place it’s revealed that everyone knows about it. She tries to gesture to Galahad to point where the danger is coming from who just looks straight at his owner, Dion.

She finds that there’s a laser in the gamma spectrum aimed at her chest, she’s pretty sure that she’s got a gun pointed at her from somewhere. She moves to intimidate Crawford, saying that she’s there for information and that if she doesn’t get it then she’s going to work her way up until she does. He didn’t want to do it, but he’s in a bad spot and if he doesn’t do what the guy says then the guy will come back and Dion’s life will be shorter. He wants to live and she doesn’t enjoy having a gun pointed at her.  She rattles off the model and serial number and it’s confirmed that’s the guy, never saw him in person just the ice cream truck that wasn’t driven by him. She starts threatening him, getting the fob from him that controls the dogs’ collars, then demands the rifle aimed at her is taken off of her. The third demand is to come with her which he refuses as it would cut his life short, if he divulges information about the man it would kill him and they’re already pushing it at the moment. She looks down at her canine allies and releases the collars on the dogs, drops the bent metal and grabs the briefcase of cash and tells Dion to get lost.

She gives a call out to Threshold asking for an exfiltration for herself and the dogs in soldier talk to Threshold’s confusion. He gets there quickly and gets her and the dogs out of there before looking around himself. Seeing a guy there on the phone with someone and digging out a bag from the guts of a vehicle.

Regenerate!

Threshold and Whisper
Old FDNY Engine 299/Ladder 152 Building aka New Base
Wednesday, May 6th, 2020, 1500 hours (EST)
61-20 Utopia Pkwy, Fresh Meadows, NY 11365

Threshold has been getting samples on himself, blood and various other fluids, temporarily considers getting a brain sample as the hole may just seal up by itself. He starts to learn that he’s got some real serious regeneration going as he even takes out bone chips that starts healing immediately. He stores some samples and starts to set up a testing schedule for the foreseeable future to see if there’s any decay or weirdness like cancer. His genetic code has already been altered from when he previously sequenced it. He’s not sure if he should be happy or concerned about unforeseen side effects but decides to keep quiet about it.

In the kitchen, she tells Threshold that the dogs are going to be staying with them for a while and that she’s only gotten the name of one of them, Galahad. Threshold is able to determine that they’re dogs from the uplift experiment, or rather the spillover from it, the fact that they’re using the faucet by themselves may be a clue. Threshold asks Wirerat to create a rather large keyboard they can type on to communicate, much to Wirerat’s glee as Whisper says that she owes one of them her life. He hacks up a keyboard, learning that the dogs names are Galahad, Bedivere, and Percival.

Riker’s Island Cookies and Cakes

Nyx
Riker’s Island
Wednesday, May 6th, 2020, 1600 hours (EST)
16-00 Hazen Street East Elmhurst, NY 11370

Nyx grabs June and drags her along, taking some public transportation and dropping by a Krispy Kreme to get a large amount of donut holes. He gets to Riker’s Island and finds himself being stared at, some of them recognizing him and some of them wondering what Nyx is actually doing there. Nyx is able to find a quick contact that he knows named Richard “Dickie” Schultz, a guard with a rather good personality that gets along with the inmates just fine. He’s a null with a large static field working the front desk. He’s excited to see Rafe, offers him some black and white cookies that his wife baked and Nyx isn’t someone to turn down free food. Seeing June there causes him some discomfort as he asks what was going on with August. Richard has a limp from a twister incident, but still leads them down to an old conference room to talk with them.

Nyx asks for access to August’s locker, getting information on Fracture, and then actually speaking with Fracture. They talk for some time, that August was worried, that Nyx has a lot of power as a cop, that August had given Richard a key if something happened to him, given over to Nyx. He speaks with her, offering donuts in exchange for more information. Teleporting donut holes into the hood while she speaks with him and pieces of cookies. He learns that Fracture can’t easily duplicate non-biological objects, just that it causes a lot of headaches and that there’s several dead bodies out there where her attempts at copying herself has killed her. There’s some philosophical discussion about whether or was her or her clone that died. She admits that she could duplicate items if they were close to the body, and that she did manage to keep one of the notes that didn’t disappear, keeping it on her body close to her, especially once she started getting visited.

Aftermath

Whisper, Wirerat, and Threshold start dealing with the dogs, giving them attention, food, checkups. They’ve got rickets which they start treating them for while Wirerat starts creating a method for them to communicate vocally as Legerdemain finally gets the rap sheets regarding Robertson.
